As part of our Science and Geography unit this term the students are looking at waste management. As part of these units we are asking students to monitor the level of waste that is put into the rubbish bin, recycling bin and green waste bin each week for 3 weeks. The students will be recording the level of waste on a sheet that will be sent home this week. In order for the students to have an accurate measurement of waste, we ask that you please help your child record the level of waste in your bins the day before they are to be emptied.

The aim of the activity is to find how much waste is being put into the bins and then find out how to reduced this level of waste in the future. Your assistance in this activity would be greatly appreciated.

A Day in the Life of a First Century Jew in Palestine

On Friday 29th July come to school dressed in your school uniform and have your costume and prop in a bag. You will change your clothes at the end of first break so you are ready for the four First Century rotations that begin at 11:30am.

Process to organising a costume

1. Choose a group to represent - Sadducees, Pharisees, Zealots or Essenes
2. Watch the clip in learning links
3. The people of this time dressed in robes. They can be fashioned from a sheet or towels.
4. Decide on a prop.
5. Know the beliefs of the group you represent - check the notes in your religion book or the clip
6. Know how they think about the other groups or people of the time eg We learnt the other day that  Jews shunned the Samaritans.

Parents, it is not our intention that you go to added expense. Your child can use things that are already in your house. For example: sheets, towels, tea towels, scarves. We want this to be a learning experience that they will remember.

Your child should have given you a note on Friday about the day. Please return the slip at the bottom so we know how many of you will be visiting us for the middle session.

 Dear Parents,
This year we're going to use a new tool to share what we're learning in class called Seesaw. Your child will have his or her own learning journal, and you can get notified when your child adds new items. It's completely private -- only you can see your child's journal outside of class. Click on https://app.seesaw.me/s/719-760-224 to sign up -- it takes just 30 seconds.

Once you sign up, you can download the Seesaw Parent app for iPhone or Android, or access your child's journal on the web.
Thanks!

P.S. If you have more than one child using Seesaw, or have used Seesaw before, sign in and click on your profile icon > + Add Child to add this year's journal.

CELEBRATION OF LEARNING

Next week beginning 13th June there will be parent/student/teacher interviews. In Year 4 the students take part in this interview process to share some of their learning, achievements and challenges with you. This is an important process for you to see what your child has accomplished over the past two terms of work and what they are excited to share with you.Their presentation will be a short 5 minute display of the work they're proud to present. Please ensure that your child comes along to the interview with you as they will be leading the discussion.

At the end of their short presentation they will invite you to provide them with some feedback on how you feel they are going. It's important to use this opportunity to provide your child with a chance to set a learning goal for next semester. If you haven't booked a time to see me next week there are still plenty of times available. I look forward to seeing you all next week.

Enjoy your weekend!

Wellness Week

We are half way through the term and taking some time out to be mindful of our emotions and how we manage them. We have started the week viewing the movie "Inside Out". The children will bring home a table they filled in today about emotions: what their job is, what it sounds like and what it looks like. Ask them to show it to you and have a discussion about it with them. You'll be surprised at their insight.

While doing a number of mindful and relaxing activities during the week we will still be observing the curriculum.
